When the Market Gets Quiet, the Winners Get Loud

June 08, 20262 min read

A lot of CPG founders slow down this time of year. Buyers are in and out. Brokers go dark. Retail calendars feel like molasses.

That’s exactly why this is your opportunity.

When the shelf is noisy, you need a bigger megaphone. When the market gets quiet, your consistency becomes the megaphone. The brands that keep showing up through the “slow season” don’t just stay alive — they earn attention, tighten execution, and build momentum that shows up as velocity later.

The CPG play for this week

Use the quieter weeks to do the unsexy work that makes your next yes easier.

1) Tighten your retail readiness (so you don’t lose deals you earned).
Update your sell sheet, confirm margins, clean up your case pack story, and make sure your “why you / why now” is a one-liner anyone can repeat. If your pitch needs a TED Talk, it’s not ready for a buyer.

2) Reconnect with warm leads (without the “just checking in” energy).
Send a real reason to re-engage: a new SKU, a packaging upgrade, improved velocity, a promo plan, a better margin story, or a clean “here’s what’s changed since we spoke” message.

3) Keep your pipeline moving with one system, not vibes.
Pick one follow-up cadence and stick to it. Retail is a long game — the brands that win are the ones that are politely persistent and operationally buttoned-up.

NYCK Minute Move (10 minutes)

Make a list of 10 accounts or partners you want back in motion (buyers, category managers, brokers, distributors, key independents).

Send this (customize one line):

“Quick one — are you planning any summer/fall line reviews or resets right now? If yes, I can send a tight one-pager with margins, velocity notes, and our promo calendar.”

Simple. Professional. Forward-moving.

If you do nothing else this week, do that. Because while other brands hit pause, you’re building positioning.
